Still wondering whether a clarifier is what your pool actually needs? Here are the questions we get asked most.

A clarifier gathers the tiny particles your filter can't catch on its own — dust, pollen and sunscreen residue — and binds them into larger clumps. Those clumps are big enough for your filter to trap, so the water clears faster and stays clear for longer.

Balanced water and clear water aren't quite the same thing. Your pH, chlorine and alkalinity can all sit perfectly in range while fine particles stay suspended in the water. That's a filtration problem rather than a balance problem — and it's exactly what a clarifier is designed for.

A clarifier works with your filter: it clumps particles so your filter can remove them during normal circulation. A flocculant instead drops everything to the floor of the pool, which you then vacuum to waste. For everyday cloudiness, a clarifier is the gentler and far less hands-on option.

Most pools only need it when the water starts looking dull, or after heavy use, a storm or a big pollen week. It isn't a weekly chemical. If you find yourself reaching for it constantly, something else is usually going on — bring us a water sample and we'll work out what.
